Volkswagen just debuted the special model 2018 VW Passat GT at Detroit’s North American Auto Show. Feedback from US customers and dealers led to the design of the GT at VW’s engineering center in Chattanooga TN. Volkswagen feels it is important for the US to shape the vehicles offered to their market, and have used their global engineering excellence to create that vision with the Passat GT.
The 2018 Passat GT will be offered as a limited-run model in a choice of four colors; pure white, reflex silver, platinum grey, and deep black. It will have standard LED headlights and daytime running lights, a bumper taken from the R-Line® with a new honeycomb grille, and a red accent line. It uses a sport-tuned suspension to add to the aggressive look. A black roof, mirror caps, and window and door trim enhance the appearance. The performance heritage is acknowledged with red brake calipers and two-tone 19-inch “Tornado” wheels. At the rear, the look continues with a black spoiler, blackened LED taillights, black bumper trim, and dual exhausts with acoustic elements.
The performance sport look continues inside the Passat GT. Seats are upholstered in black leatherette with grey inserts and contrasting stitches. A piano black center console and vent trim, carbon fiber-optic decor, black headliner, and aluminum sills with GT badging clearly identify the GT. Comfort and convenience features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, 8-way power driver’s seat with front seat heating, dual-zone climate control, heated outside mirrors, an infotainment system with 6.3-inch color touchscreen, Bluetooth®, voice control, and Volkswagen Car-Net® App-Connect technology.
The 2018 Passat GT is powered by a 3.6 liter VR6® engine developing 280 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque using regular octane gasoline. It is paired with a standard 6-speed DSG® automatic transmission with Tiptronic® and features steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. All Passat GT comes with the People First warranty, America’s best new vehicle warranty offering six years or 72,000 miles bumper-to-bumper coverage which is transferable to future owners while active.
