Volkswagen has designed an updated and technologically enhanced version of the 2017 Golf. While the upcoming 2018 Golf changes are mostly minimal, they are noteworthy and still worth taking a look at.

Exterior Changes

Volkswagen is moving away from the traditional boxy design of earlier Golf versions. The 2018 Golf will feature sharper lines and completely updated exterior features. The bumpers, chrome grille, and full LED headlights and tail lights are new features that will change the exterior just enough to make a difference. The minimal changes to these exterior features create a more modern and sleek look to the traditional Golf. Buyers can further update their 2018 Golf with customizable exterior paint palette. Although dealers will only carry 5 standard color options, other colors can be specially ordered. In total, the Golf will have over 30 different color variations to choose from.

Interior Changes

The interior of the Golf is what has made it a preferred family vehicle. Being both comfortable and sleek, it is the ultimate family vehicle. The subtle changes coming in the 2018 Golf will only increase the appeal and comfort of the interior. The layout of the technological features and powered seats won’t see any drastic changes. The control cabin, however, will feature advanced infotainment systems with a fully digital “Active Info Display“. The navigation screen is larger, upgraded to an 8.0-inch screen in some models and the operating lights are even brighter. Drivers can view navigation graphics in either 2D or 3D. A new automatic start option will improve the overall drive.

Increased Safety Features

Considering the Volkswagen Golf is commonly used as a family vehicle, safety is an important characteristic. Volkswagen understands the importance of safety in family vehicles and has equipped the 2018 Golf version with upgraded safety features. Expected 2018 safety features include an automatic emergency braking system, an advanced blind spot monitoring feature, rear-cross traffic alerts, park assist, a high beam assist, and a park distance control. The pedestrian monitoring feature will also make driving through busy cities safer. Families can rest easy knowing they have a safe and family-friendly vehicle.

Drive and Performance Changes

Drivers of Volkswagen have come to expect a sharp, yet comfortable ride. Most of the 2018 Golf models will feature the same engine and suspension setup as the 2017 model. The GTI performance model, however, will increase power from 230 HP to 245 HP. Drivers will notice a significant increase in the performance. Upgraded rain-sensing windshield wipers will improve the functionality of the drive during poor weather. Upgraded brakes will increase stopping time and make the drive safer.

Fuel Saving Improvements

Drivers can also expect to cut down on fueling with the new Volkswagen S trim option. This version of the Golf has a fuel-saving stop-start feature that automatically shuts down the engine and then restarts it, cutting down on fuel usage in heavy traffic areas.

Although an exact date has not yet been released, we can expect to see the upgraded 2018 Golf model released sometime this fall.
