Volkswagen recently announced that they are partnering with software company, Nvidia, to help their team learn more about the software they want to create to help manage traffic flows and make it easier for people to work with and alongside robots. Volkswagen believes that artificial intelligence is the future, and this partnership will help them develop new systems for their vehicles. Here is all about the Volkswagen/Nvidia partnership.

The Reason For the Partnership

Volkswagen wants Nvidia to help them learn more about artificial intelligence systems so they can develop them on their own. The partnership with the software company will help the developers learn more about the process. Nvidia originally made a name for itself in the gaming industry because of their graphic design processing chips, and they are now a key player in providing the technology for autonomous vehicles. The partnership will allow Volkswagen to learn from their knowledge.

What Has Already Happened

Nvidia has already worked with Volkswagen on some self-driving cars. The manufacturer plans to bring this to the market by 2020. This first collaboration included adding Nvidia’s digital cockpits in the entire VW group, and working on autopilot technology. They revealed the results of their work at during CES 2017 with the Audi Q7 model. This cockpit is designed to help drivers instead of taking over for them. It can even anticipate what you might need. For instance, if you get stuck on a hot day, it might increase the air conditioning if the inside of the car gets warm.

The Future of Autonomous Vehicles

Volkswagen believes that artificial intelligence is the key to their future. They plan to develop and release high-performance artificial intelligence systems that go beyond just autonomous vehicles. They are the first manufacturer to come up with an integrated mobility concept that changes the future of road traffic. This includes a concept car called Sedric to help showcase how important autonomous driving is to the future of traffic flow and the future of Volkswagen. Sedric is the first fully autonomic car from Volkswagen that doesn’t require a human driver at all.

The VW Data Lab

Nvidia will also help Volkswagen expand their Data Lab. This partnership will work to develop technology that helps to optimize the flow of traffic in busy cities and allows people to work alongside robots. The two companies also have plans to create a startup support program. This program will assist five small businesses that work with machine learning, which is a system that can identify patterns based on images or data collected from sensors. Volkswagen also wants to learn more about the deep learning platform to help gather effective and reliable information about patterns. This will enable Volkswagen to identify malware and prevent cyber attacks.

What Else?

The companies also plan to work with students. The Summer of Code camp will help students learn about coding in a summer camp environment.

The partnership between Volkswagen and Nvidia is the future of artificial intelligence in vehicles. Make sure to watch for what comes next in the world of autonomous driving.
